MARKET OPEN

Good morning, it’s Thursday, October 15, 2026. The AI trade just ran into a 5% bond market.

Nasdaq 100 futures are down 1.13% and S&P futures are off 0.30%, while Dow futures are up 0.29%. Overnight, Asia took the hit: Korea’s Kospi plunged almost 8% for its seventh straight drop, and the Nikkei fell 5%.

The trigger was yesterday’s hot inflation print, which has traders betting the Fed hikes again.

The setup: TSMC just posted a record quarter and raised guidance. Its stock still fell. That tells you this selloff is about interest rates, not AI demand.

Tech leads lower. Expect volatility at 8:30am ET.

What’s moving the market: Hotter US inflation and CoreWeave’s bond slump deepened the chip selloff. Meanwhile, Treasuries rallied on haven demand and the dollar weakened, while gold gained.

TODAY’S CATALYSTS

  • Before open — Charles Schwab, BNY, PNC, U.S. Bancorp, Prologis

  • 8:30 AM — PPI, Retail Sales, Jobless Claims

  • All day — Fed’s Bowman and Hammack speak

  • After close — Interactive Brokers, J.B. Hunt

Most important: PPI. Economists expect producer prices to rise 0.5% month-over-month, up from 0.4% last time. Another hot number could cement a December hike.

This Tech Could Be Bigger Than Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft Combined

A breakthrough tech backed by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang could soon be worth more than the stocks of Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon—combined.

It's likely the only answer to a $33 trillion problem... but most people don't yet know it exists. A man who has consulted for the Pentagon and FBI just flew into a heavily secured site to get the full story and discover the stocks involved.

THE BIG STORY
Higher Rates Are Now Repricing the AI Trade

Yesterday’s CPI did real damage. Headline inflation rose to 3.7% versus 3.6% expected, and core hit 2.6% versus 2.5%, showing price pressure spreading beyond energy.

Traders reacted fast. Markets now price roughly a 94% chance of a December hike, and a 40% chance of a half-point move.

The pain landed on companies that borrow to build AI. CoreWeave dropped more than 15%, Dell fell roughly 11%, and Oracle slid about 9%. A US chip-stock gauge has lost $1.6 trillion in value over six straight sessions.

What this means for investors: The market is separating AI companies that fund growth with cash from those that fund it with debt. At 5% yields, that difference matters more every week.

BREAKING NEWS
TSMC Beat Everything. The Stock Fell Anyway

TSMC’s third-quarter revenue hit about $46.72 billion, up 50.9% year over year and above its own guidance of $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion. It was the sixth straight record quarter, with net profit up 68.7%.

The outlook was even better. TSMC guided Q4 revenue to $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion, roughly 58% growth from a year ago. It also lifted its 2026 growth outlook to about 44%.

The one blemish: gross margin slipped to 66.4% as the 2-nanometer ramp and overseas fabs weigh on profitability.

TSM was down about 2.2% premarket. AI demand is intact. The market just isn’t paying the same multiple for it.

Today, AI Could Make Life Very Strange in America

For years, we've been led to believe the tech firm operating at 500 Howard Street in Silicon Valley is "one of the good guys."

But will the advanced form of AI that just emerged from this location change the way we live, work and invest forever?

Marc Chaikin reveals the time-sensitive details of this discovery and offers you a FREE 3-part playbook to protect your future.

PORTFOLIO INSIGHTS

If PPI runs hot → December hike becomes a lock; leveraged growth stocks stay under pressure.

If yields keep easing → The 10-year hit 5.34% on October 1, its highest since 2002. Today’s pullback toward 5.08% still gives income investors yields not seen in two decades.

If Brent stays above $100 → Energy keeps feeding inflation. Good for producers, tough on consumers.

TODAY’S BIG IDEA

AI Suppliers with Fortress Balance Sheets

The opportunity: Self-funded AI leaders getting sold alongside debt-funded ones.

Why now: The selloff is hitting everything with “AI” attached. The real stress is in borrowers.

Bull case: TSMC is guiding to 58% growth and paid $15 billion in cash dividends in 2025.

Risk: If rates keep climbing, valuations compress across the board.

Watch: Analysts are watching $430 as TSM’s key support level.

RISK RADAR

AI Credit Stress

This is the risk most investors aren’t watching.

Default insurance costs on AI-linked names have widened, in some cases to records, for Oracle, SoftBank and CoreWeave. CoreWeave’s 2032 bonds trade below 78 cents on the dollar, just four months after issuance.

Watch: Whether stress spreads to investment-grade tech borrowers.

THE WATCHLIST

  • TSM -2.2% — Record quarter, strong guide. Watch whether $430 holds.

  • SCHW — Options imply a 3.71% move; consensus is $1.66 per share. A clean read on how retail investors are behaving.

  • CRWV — The AI credit canary. Watch the bonds, not just the stock.

FOLLOW THE MONEY

Speculative money is leaving. Defensive money is arriving.

Gold futures are up about 1.5% near $4,170. On the other side, Bitcoin ETFs shed $261 million, and crypto liquidations neared $1 billion, with longs making up roughly 90%.

That’s a classic risk-off rotation.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Rates, not AI demand, are driving this selloff, and TSMC just proved it. Today’s 8:30 data decides whether this is a shakeout or the start of a deeper pullback.

Stay patient, favor quality balance sheets, and let volatility hand you better entry points.
